Red Wings re-sign D Stuart

Jul 1, 2008 - 5:18 PM DETROIT (Ticker) -- Brad Stuart was not ready to move again.

After helping the Detroit Red Wings to the Stanley Cup championship this past season, Stuart decided to remain in "Hockeytown" on Tuesday, signing a four-year contract with the club.

Financial terms were not released, but TSN of Canada is reporting the defenseman will receive $15 million.

Drafted third overall by San Jose in 1998, Stuart was traded to Boston in the blockbuster deal involving Joe Thornton on November 30, 2005. The 28-year-old was shipped to Calgary in February 2007 and signed as a free agent with Los Angeles prior to last season before being dealt to Detroit at the February 26 trade deadline.

A native of Alberta, Stuart recorded five goals and 21 points in 63 games with the Kings before notching a tally and an assist in nine contests with the Red Wings.

After missing the final eight games of the regular season with a broken finger, he registered a goal and six assists in 21 playoff contests, finishing second on the team among defensemen with a plus-15 rating.

In 579 career games with the Sharks, Bruins, Flames, Kings and Red Wings, Stuart has collected 59 goals, 170 assists and 372 penalty minutes.
