Canadiens sign D Gorges
Jul 9, 2008 - 8:23 PM MONTREAL (Ticker) - The Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday signed 23-year-old defenseman Josh Gorges to a three-year contract.The Canadiens did not disclose financial terms.
"Josh established himself as a key member of our defensive squad last season," Montreal general manager Bob Gainey said. "His reliability and solid play made him one of our most improved players. He is a young defenseman with a very good work ethic."
Gorges is beginning his fourth year in the NHL. Last season, he played in a career-high 62 games, registering nine assists. He appeared in Montreal's final 52 contests.
A native of British Columbia, Gorges was acquired by the Canadiens from the San Jose Sharks on February 25. He has skated in 165 career games, registering a goal and 18 assists.
