Stars sign LW Benn

Jul 11, 2008 - 11:01 PM FRISCO, Texas (Ticker) -- The Dallas Stars on Friday signed left wing Jamie Benn to a three-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed.

Selected in the fifth round of the 2007 draft, Benn spent last season with Kelowna of the Western Hockey League, recording a team-leading 33 goals and 32 assists in 51 games. The 18-year-old also topped the Rockets with 15 power-play tallies and a plus-32 rating.

"We're very excited to sign Jamie to an entry-level contract," Stars co-general manager Les Jackson said. "Jamie is a talented hockey player with a solid work ethic, and we will continue to work with him as he develops as a player to hopefully play one day for the Dallas Stars at the NHL level. He has a bright future ahead of him."

The 6-2, 185-pound Benn, who turns 19 on July 18, played for his hometown Victoria Grizzlies of the British Columbia Hockey League in 2006-07, notching 42 goals and 23 assists in 53 games.
