Red Wings to raise banner vs. Maple Leafs
Jul 16, 2008 - 11:59 PM DETROIT (Ticker) -- The Detroit Red Wings will raise their 11th Stanley Cup championship banner to the rafters at Joe Louis Arena on October 9 when the team faces another "Original Six" foe, the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team announced on Wednesday.Detroit, which defeated Pittsburgh in six games in the Stanley Cup Finals last month, will face the Penguins twice next season due to the league's new scheduling system. The Red Wings also will play two games against the Buffalo Sabres and Atlanta Thrashers.
The complete 2008-09 NHL schedule will be released Thursday.
