PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- The Philadelphia Flyers will once again take to the ice at the Wachovia Spectrum when they play a preseason game against the Carolina Hurricanes on September 27, the team announced Thursday.
The Flyers' home for nearly 40 years, the Spectrum will be torn down at the conclusion of the respective seasons of the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League and the Philadelphia Kixx of the Major Indoor Soccer League.
"This will be a wonderful opportunity for thousands of our fans, who used to attend our games at the Spectrum or watch them on TV, to come back one last time and see the Flyers in our old home," Comcast-Spectacor chairman Ed Snider said. "It'll also be the last chance for others who may have never seen the Flyers play at the Spectrum. It will be a highly emotional game for me, personally."
Comcast-Spectacor is a Philadelphia-based sports and entertainment company which owns the NHL's Flyers, NBA's 76ers, Phantoms, the Wachovia Center, the Wachovia Spectrum, the regional sports network Comcast SportsNet and Global Spectrum, an international facilities management company.
