Red Wings D Lidstrom leaves game

DETROIT (Ticker) -- Detroit Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom left Wednesday's preseason game against the Montreal Canadiens in the third period after a shot struck his face.

Lidstrom, who helped the Red Wings win the Stanley Cup championship last season, was helped off the ice 3:05 into the third. The 16-year veteran required stitches above his right eye and was taken to Detroit Medical Center for precautionary X-rays.

The 38-year-old captain recorded 10 goals and 60 assists in 76 games in 2007-08.
