Red Wings D Chelios out 3-6 weeks
Oct 2, 2008 - 7:37 PM DETROIT (Ticker) -- Detroit Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios will miss three to six weeks with a fractured right tibia, the team announced Thursday. The 46-year-old suffered the injury while blocking a shot during the third period of Tuesday's preseason game against the Montreal Canadiens.
On crutches Wednesday, Chelios indicated that he didn't think the injury was anything more than a bruise, but the three-time Norris trophy winner must now wait a bit longer before starting his 25th season.
Chelios, who re-signed with the Red Wings for one year last month, had three goals and nine assists in 69 games for the reigning Stanley Cup champions last season. His 1,616 career games played ranks first all-time among American born players and sixth all-time in his NHL history.
