LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- The Los Angeles Kings on Thursday signed Martin Jones to a three-year contract and promptly returned the 18-year-old goaltender back to Calgary of the Western Hockey League.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
A 6-1, 165-pound native of British Columbia, Jones posted an 18-8-1 record with one shutout, a 2.12 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage in 27 games with the Hitmen last season.
Also on Thursday, the Kings assigned center David Meckler and defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov to Manchester of the American Hockey League.
Meckler, who agreed to a three-year contract in July, was a fifth-round selection in the 2006 draft. The 21-year-old former Yale star recorded 23 goals and 13 assists in 76 games with Manchester in 2007-08.
The 6-foot, 190-pound Voynov, who agreed to a three-year deal in August, was a second-round pick in this past June's draft. The 18-year-old Russian spent the past two seasons with Traktor Chelyabinsk of the Russian League, notching one goal and three assists in 36 games last campaign.
