Senators C Fisher may miss opener
Oct 3, 2008 - 3:20 PM OTTAWA (Ticker) -- Ottawa Senators center Mike Fisher could miss Saturday's season opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins, according to a published report.Fisher suffered a groin injury in during the club's preseason win over Frolunda in Sweden on Thursday, the Ottawa Sun reported on its website.
Sixth on the Senators in scoring with 47 points last season, Fisher is now questionable for Saturday's opener against the Penguins in Stockholm, Sweden.
"We'll see (how it feels Friday). I don't really know," Fisher told the Sun, adding that the injury is not related to groin injury he battled last season. "It was the second shift, just on the blue line. I made quick move to try and catch the 'D' and kind of felt it. I felt it right away and knew I didn't want to push it. I wanted to come off and be smart."
If Fisher can't play, either Shean Donovan or Dean McAmmond will see more ice time.
"I guess it was feeling a little tight, so he came out of the game," Senators general manager Bryan Murray said. "How do you get better from something like that in two days?"
The Senators also will play Pittsburgh in Stockholm on Sunday, before heading back to Canada for their home opener against the reigning Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings on October 11.
