Rangers named C Drury captain
Oct 3, 2008 - 7:37 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- The New York Rangers on Friday named center Chris Drury the team's new captain.Drury, who fills the void left by Jaromir Jagr's departure, is the 25th captain in Rangers' history.
"Chris Drury is a natural leader who possesses all of the qualities and characteristics we desire from our captain," general manager Glen Sather said. "He has always been known as a clutch performer and a winner. Chris leads by example with his tireless work ethic on and off the ice and is extremely deserving of this honor."
The 32-year-old Drury is entering his 10th NHL season and second with New York. A Stanley Cup winner and two-time Olympian, Drury had 25 goals and 58 points last season.
The Rangers also announced that Scott Gomez and Markus Naslund have been named assistant captains.
No one has shouted yet.
