Ducks assign RW Ryan to AHL affiliate

Oct 3, 2008 - 11:02 PM ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- The Anaheim Ducks on Friday assigned right wing Bobby Ryan - the second overall pick in the 2005 draft - to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Iowa Chops.

Ryan was selected by the Ducks after Pittsburgh chose Sidney Crosby first overall but has yet to come anywhere near the achievements of the Penguins' superstar captain.

In Ryan's first NHL regular season game - the first contest of the 2007-08 season - he scored the only goal for the Ducks against the Los Angeles Kings in London, England.

Ryan recorded 21 goals and 28 assists in 48 games for the Portland Pirates of the AHL last season. The 21-year-old also notched five tallies and 10 points in 23 contests with the Ducks.
