VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- The Vancouver Canucks placed defenseman Lawrence Nycholat on injured reserve Wednesday with a back injury he suffered four days ago against the Anaheim Ducks.

The 29-year-old Nycholat was acquired from the Ottawa Senators in September for center Ryan Shannon.

The Canucks also reduced their roster to 23 after assigning center Jason Krog, left wing Matt Pettinger and right wing Jeff Cowan to Manitoba of the American Hockey League.

Pettinger was acquired from the Washington Capitals at the trade deadline last February and played 20 games for the Canucks, collecting four goals and two assists.

Cowan, an eight-year veteran, has registered 81 career points in 413 games and is entering his third season with Vancouver, while Krog has posted 21 goals and 37 assists points in 198 career games with four teams.
