Blackhawks RW Eager suspended

Oct 8, 2008 - 9:36 PM TORONTO (Ticker) -- Chicago Blackhawks left wing Ben Eager has been suspended three games without pay for receiving a match penalty in a preseason game against the Dallas Stars, the NHL announced Wednesday.

Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement and his average annual salary, Eager will forfeit $9,677.43.

Eager was assessed the match penalty during Tuesday's game when he tried to injure Stars left wing Sean Avery. The incident occurred at 9:45 of the third period when he swung his stick from the bench in an attempt to hit Avery, who was skating by.

Eager is eligible to return on October 15 against Phoenix.
