VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- The Vancouver Canucks trimmed their roster to the 23-man limit Wednesday, assigning three players to the American Hockey League and placing defenseman Lawrence Nycholat on injured reserve with a back injury.
Left wing Matt Pettinger and center Jason Krog were sent to the Manitoba Moose, while right wing Jeff Cowan was assigned to the Peoria Rivermen.
A second-round pick of Washington in 2000, Pettinger recorded four goals and two assists in 20 games with the Canucks after being acquired from the Capitals in February. The 27-year-old notched two tallies and seven points in 56 contests with Washington prior to the deal.

Krog, 33, signed with Vancouver on July 14 after helping the Chicago Wolves capture the AHL's Calder Cup last season. The native of British Columbia has registered 21 goals and 37 assists in 198 career NHL games with the New York Islanders, Mighty Ducks of Anaheim, Atlanta Thrashers and New York Rangers.
Cowan appeared in 46 games for Vancouver in 2007-08, recording one assist and 110 penalty minutes. The 32-year-old has notched 47 goals, 34 assists and 695 penalty minutes in 413 career contests with the Calgary Flames, Thrashers, Los Angeles Kings and Canucks.
