Flames D Regehr misses game as wife goes into labor

Oct 10, 2008 - 3:45 AM VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- Calgary Flames veteran defenseman Robyn Regehr on Thursday missed his team's first game so he could attend another first - the birth of his first child.

Regehr was listed as a late scratch for his Flames' season-opening game against the Vancouver Canucks so that he could join his wife, Christina, as she went into labor.

The 28-year-old Regehr, who had five goals, 15 assists and a plus-11 rating last season, is expected to return to the club when it hosts the Canucks on Saturday.

Regehr has played 591 career games with the Flames, notching 25 goals, 96 assists and 591 penalty minutes.
