Report: Islanders D Martinek out 4-6 weeks
Oct 15, 2008 - 12:48 AM ASBURY PARK, New Jersey (Ticker) -- New York Islanders defenseman Radek Martinek will be out four to six weeks because of an undisclosed upper body injury sustained in Saturday's 5-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues, according to a report by the Asbury Park Press on Tuesday.Martinek was knocked out of the Islanders' home opener in the first period Saturday after sustaining a hard hit behind the net. He was evaluated by doctors that night and did not play in New York's 7-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Monday.
The 32-year-old has recorded two penalty minutes and one shot on goal in two games this season.
An eighth-round pick by the Islanders in 1999, Martinek has 10 goals and 64 assists in 324 career games during his seven-year tenure with the Islanders.
