Canucks assign C Wellwood to minors
Oct 18, 2008 - 11:13 PM VANCOUVER, British Columbia (Ticker) -- The Vancouver Canucks on Saturday assigned center Kyle Wellwood to its American Hockey League affiliate in Manitoba.Claimed off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs over the summer, Wellwood did not record a point in one game with the Canucks this season.
Plagued by a nagging groin injury, Wellwood recorded eight goals and 13 assists in 59 games with Toronto last season. The 25-year-old, who was a fifth-round pick of the Maple Leafs in 2001, has notched 31 tallies and 77 assists in 190 career contests.
