Islanders G DiPietro out vs. Rangers

Oct 28, 2008 - 12:28 AM UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) -- New York Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro sat out Monday's game against the New York Rangers due to an undisclosed lower body injury.

"Rick DiPietro incurred a lower body injury Saturday night unrelated to his previous injuries," the Islanders said in a statement. "Rick is day to day pending additional assessment and treatment. No further comments related to this issue will be made until further information is available."

The 27-year-old DiPietro, who is 0-2-0 with a 3.97 goals-against average in three games this season, served as the backup for the first four games of the campaign while recovering from offseason knee and hip surgeries.

The six-year veteran posted a 26-28-7 record with three shutouts and a 2.82 goals-against average in 63 games last campaign.

Drafted first overall in 2000, DiPietro signed a 15-year, $67.5 million contract with New York in 2006.

Joey MacDonald started Monday's game against the Rangers, with Yann Danis serving as his backup.
