Devils LW Elias shakes off early injury

Oct 30, 2008 - 5:07 AM NEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) -- New Jersey Devils left wing Patrik Elias shook off an early facial injury in Wednesday's 6-5 shootout loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs and returned to the contest in the second period.

Elias was hit in the face by a puck just four minutes into the game and retreated to the locker room. He did not return until midway through the second and took only two shifts before assuming regular duty in the third.

Elias, who was kept off the scoresheet, also participated in the shootout, scoring New Jersey's only goal of the bonus format in the second round.
