Sharks G Nabokov listed day-to-day

Nov 7, 2008 - 11:50 PM SAN JOSE, California (Ticker) -- The San Jose Sharks announced Friday that goaltender Evgeni Nabokov is day-to-day with a a lower body injury.

Nabokov sustained the injury on the final play of Thursday's 5-4 shootout victory over the St. Louis Blues.

The 2007-08 Vezina Trophy runner-up made 25 saves and denied three consecutive opportunities to end the shootout but injured himself on the last attempt taken by St. Louis' Patrik Berglund.

The 33-year-old native of Kazakhstan is 10-2-0 with a 2.72 goals-against average in 12 games this season.

Brian Boucher likely will fill in as the starter while Nabokov is sidelined. The Sharks recalled goaltender Thomas Greiss from Worcester of the American Hockey League to serve as the backup.

San Jose also recalled right wing Brad Staubitz from Worcester and assigned left wing Jamie McGinn to its AHL affiliate.

Staubitz, 24, recorded five penalty minutes in three games with the Sharks earlier this season, while the 20-year-old McGinn - a second-round pick in 2006 - notched two goals and an assist in five contests in his first NHL campaign.
