Devils D Salvador out vs. Oilers

Nov 10, 2008 - 12:41 AM NEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) -- New Jersey Devils defenseman Bryce Salvador will not play in Sunday's game against the Edmonton Oilers.

Salvador did not play in the third period of Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings due to the left foot injury he suffered after being struck by a shot from teammate John Madden.

The 32-year-old Salvador logged 11 minutes, 58 seconds of ice time and posted a minus-1 rating before exiting.

A native of Brandon, Manitoba, Salvador signed a four-year contract worth $11.6 million in July. He has registered one assist in 13 games this season.

The Devils will also be without right wing Brian Gionta, who left Saturday's game with a head injury. Both Salvador and Gionta have become the latest casualties for the Devils.

Earlier in the week, reigning Vezina Trophy winner Martin Brodeur underwent surgery after suffering a torn biceps tendon in his left elbow during a 6-1 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers on November 1. He is expected to miss three to four months.

New Jersey also has been without Brian Rolston (high right ankle sprain), Bobby Holik (broken right pinky), Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond (cracked orbital bone) and defensemen Andy Greene (broken right hand) and Paul Martin (upper body soreness).
