RW Gionta, D Salvador return for Devils

Nov 13, 2008 - 1:41 AM NEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) -- The injury-plagued New Jersey Devils got back a pair of players Wednesday as right wing Brian Gionta and defenseman Bryce Salvador returned to the lineup for their game against the New York Rangers.

Both Gionta and Salvador had missed one game after being injured in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings. Gionta was injured in the second period, when he crashed into the boards after being checked by Detroit defenseman Derek Meech, while Salvador was hit in the foot by a shot from teammate John Madden in the middle session.

Gionta entered Wednesday with two goals and seven assists in 13 games and Salvador had notched one assist in 13 contests.

The Devils still are without defensemen Paul Martin and Andy Greene, center Bobby Holik, right wing Brian Rolston and reigning Vezina Trophy winner Martin Brodeur, who is expected to miss up to four months following elbow surgery.
