Capitals G Johnson leaves game

Nov 13, 2008 - 4:39 AM RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Washington Capitals goaltender Brent Johnson left Wednesday's 5-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes after one period with a hip injury.

His status for Washington's home game against the New Jersey Devils on Friday is uncertain.

"It's tough to tell right now because it is sore," Johnson said. "When I was moving around out there, I felt a lot of pain. We'll see how it feels (Thursday).

"It was on their power play and it was a one-timer from the top. One leg this way and this leg stayed where it was. I was just trying to angle the puck to the corner. ... It's not serious. I shouldn't be out long at all."

Making his fifth consecutive start, Johnson turned aside 13 of the 14 shots he faced before being replaced by Jose Theodore at the beginning of the second session.

"We'll evaluate how it is (Thursday)," Washington coach Bruce Boudreau said.

The 31-year-old Johnson is 5-1-2 with a 2.15 goals-against average in eight games this season. He has won four straight contests, yielding just six goals in that span.
