0 shoutsBOSTON (Ticker) -- The Boston Bruins on Wednesday placed Andrew Ference on injured reserve with a fractured right tibia and recalled fellow defenseman Matt Lashoff from Providence of the American Hockey League.
Ference, who leads all Bruins blue-liners with seven assists, was hurt during a 6-1 home victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday, when a shot caught him flush in the leg. He underwent surgery on Monday and is expected to miss up to eight weeks.
The 29-year-old entered Wednesday's action second on the team behind Marc Savard with a plus-9 rating. In 16 games, Ference has yet to score a goal but has collected 19 penalty minutes.
Lashoff, 22, has recorded three goals and 10 assists in 15 games with Providence this season. The 22nd overall pick in 2005 notched a goal and four assists in 18 contests with Boston in 2007-08.
