Capitals D Green leaves game

Nov 20, 2008 - 8:01 AM ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- Washington Capitals defenseman Mike Green left Wednesday's 6-3 victory over the Anaheim Ducks in the first period with an undisclosed injury.

Green was on the receiving end of a thunderous check by Anaheim blue-liner Chris Pronger with 6:39 remaining in the opening session and returned to the locker room. He did not return.

"(Pronger) is 6-4 or something. He really hits hard," Washington coach Bruce Boudreau said. "We'll know more about the injury (on Thursday). We hope it's just a bruise."

The Capitals did not reveal the nature of the injury, but Green had his arm in a sling after the game, leading many to believe he has a damaged shoulder.

"I saw (Pronger) coming at the last second, but he's so big, I couldn't brace myself," Green said. "I'm just trying to keep it still right now. Obviously, it's not too bad. We'll see how tonight goes and how it is (Thursday) morning."

Entering with six goals and eight assists in 17 games this season, Green helped set up Tomas Fleischmann's power-play goal just 2:19 into the contest and netted one of his own less than two minutes later to give Washington a quick 2-0 lead.
