LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- One night after suffering an undisclosed injury, Washington Capitals defenseman Mike Green did not play in Thursday's game against the Los Angeles Kings.
Green left Wednesday's 6-3 victory over the Anaheim Ducks in the first period after being on the receiving end of a thunderous check by Anaheim blue-liner Chris Pronger. However, Green told the Washington Post he felt better Thursday morning.
A timetable for his return has not been specified.
"It's too early to determine what's wrong with him," Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau told the newspaper prior to Thursday's contest. "We're going to get him checked out. He'll get an MRI to rule out everything. It's like anything else - the next day, you're sore when you take a hit like that."
The Capitals initially did not reveal the nature of the injury, but Green had his arm in a sling after Wednesday's game, leading many to believe he has a damaged shoulder.
The 23-year-old has recorded seven goals and nine assists in 18 games this season. A first-round pick in 2004, Green has collected 28 tallies and 59 assists in 192 contests over his four-year career.
Teammate Alexander Semin also missed his third straight game with an upper body injury. The Russian ranks second in the NHL in both goals (13) and points (27).
