Luongo leaves game with groin injury
Nov 23, 2008 - 12:02 AM PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo left Saturday's 3-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins in the first period with a groin injury.Canucks coach Alain Vigneault did not know the extent of Luongo's injury but said he would be re-evaluated Sunday.
"He strained his groin a little bit," Vigneault said. "We are not exactly sure the severity of it. He will come back with us to Vancouver and get an MRI sooner than later, and we will hopefully know within 24 hours."
Luongo went down attempting to make a save on a shot that was blocked in front. He was helped off the rink by the training staff, unable to put any weight on his left leg.
The 29-year-old Luongo, who made one save before the injury, is 11-5-2 with a 2.18 goals-against average and an NHL-best five shutouts this season.
