PITTSBURGH (Ticker) -- The Vancouver Canucks on Saturday recalled goaltender Cory Schneider from Manitoba of the American Hockey League.

The move was deemed necessary due to a groin injury suffered by captain Roberto Luongo in the first period of the Canucks' 3-1 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins earlier in the day.

Schneider has gone 10-1-0 with a league-leading 1.37 goals-against average in 11 games with the Moose this season. The 22-year-old native of Marblehead, Massachusetts was drafted 26th overall by Vancouver in 2004.

In a corresponding move, the Canucks assigned defenseman Nolan Baumgartner to Manitoba. The 32-year-old was recalled on Thursday but did not see any action with the team.
