TORONTO (Ticker) - The Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday acquired right wing Lee Stempniak from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo and center Alex Steen.
Stempniak, 25, has three goals and 10 assists in 14 games this season.
In 2006-07, Stempniak led the Blues with 27 goals and added 25 assists while appearing in all 82 games.
Both Colaiacovo and Steen were former first-round picks by the Maple Leafs.
"We feel we have improved our club today for both the short and long term by adding Carlo and Alex," Blues general manager John Davidson said. "Carlo is a solid two-way defenseman and will provide depth to our blueline and Alex can play center or wing and can score at the NHL level."
Colaiacovo, 25, has played in 10 games this season, recording one assist. The 6-1, 200-pound defenseman is in his sixth season and has 12 goals and 21 assists in 111 games.
Steen, 24, has skated 20 games this season with Toronto, tallying two goals and two assists.
The 6-1, 205-pound center is in his fourth season, playing in 253 games while recording 50 goals and 76 assists.
