NEW YORK (Ticker) -- After missing the last five games with an ankle injury, New York Rangers center Scott Gomez scored an empty-net goal with 28 seconds remaining in his team's 4-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes on Monday.
Gomez, who had a team-high five shots on goal, was thrilled to be back on the ice.
"It was great," Gomez said. "The whole thing, the whole atmosphere. Coming back, it was like Christmas morning. This is what you do.
"I love to play and to come back help and just be around the guys and feel like you're contributing. You can't ask for more."
For the season, Gomez has four goals and 10 assists in 19 games this season.
