OTTAWA (Ticker) -- After nursing a knee injury, Ottawa Senators center Mike Fisher returned to the team's lineup for Thursday's 2-1 shootout victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Fisher scored the game's first goal 3:54 into the opening period.
It was originally thought that Fisher would miss at least two weeks when he suffered the injury in a game against the New York Rangers on November 17, but he ended up missing only two games.
"I felt pretty good," Fisher told the Ottawa Sun. "I felt quite a bit better than (Monday). I was feeling strong and I was pretty happy with the way it went... I wasn't really sure (how long it would be) because I haven't really had this type of injury before.
"It's not like anything I've had. I was optimistic that it wouldn't be too long, but it's come along as good or better than I thought."
The 28-year-old Fisher has three goals and four assists in 17 games. A second-round selection in 1998 by Ottawa, Fisher has 118 goals and 128 assists in 480 games over his nine-year career with the Senators.
