PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Daniel Briere had the right intentions. Unfortunately, all did not work out as planned.
One day after Briere returned to the team's lineup, the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday announced the center will miss the next four to five weeks with a groin strain.
The 31-year-old Briere was back on the ice for the Flyers in their 4-3 overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday but lasted just 1 1/2 periods before leaving with the groin injury. He skated 12 shifts, recording two penalty minutes and 7 minutes, 41 seconds of ice time before departing.
Briere had missed all of Philadelphia's previous nine games and 14 of 16 with the ailment.
Signed to an eight-year, $52 million contract prior to the 2007-08 season, the native of Gatineau, Quebec has registered five goals and four assists in nine games this campaign. In his first season with the Flyers, Briere notched 31 tallies and 72 points in 79 regular-season contests before adding nine goals and seven assists in 17 playoff games as Philadelphia reached the Eastern Conference finals.
Drafted 24th overall by Phoenix in 1996, Briere has amassed 198 goals and 259 assists in 571 career games with the Coyotes, Buffalo Sabres and Flyers.
