Canadiens D Markov, RW Dandenault leave game

Dec 7, 2008 - 4:39 AM MONTREAL (Ticker) -- Montreal Canadiens defenseman Andrei Markov left Saturday's 2-1 overtime loss to the New Jersey Devils in the third period after being hit in the face with the puck.

The Russian was hit by a puck that caromed off the stick of New Jersey's Zach Parise. Markov immediately fell to the ice and was bleeding profusely from his upper lip and mouth before trainers escorted him to the locker room.

Markov, who received stitches and lost a few teeth, did not return to the game.

"(Markov) is OK," Montreal coach Guy Carbonneau said. "He's got a big cut on the lip, and I think he lost two teeth."

The Canadiens also lost the services of right wing Mathieu Dandenault, who was injured after he took a slap shot in the right foot in the third period. He returned to the bench later in the period but did not log any additional ice time.
