Capitals Cs Backstrom, Fedorov, D Sloan leave game

Dec 14, 2008 - 4:45 AM MONTREAL (Ticker) -- The Washington Capitals may have recorded a 2-1 triumph over the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday, but they incurred a few injuries along the way.

Center Nicklas Backstrom, who netted a power-play goal in the first period, left Saturday's contest during the third session with an undisclosed injury.

Veteran center Sergei Fedorov and defenseman Tyler Sloan also left the game with undisclosed ailments.

"Oh yes, we only dropped two or three guys, so we were OK, it was an easy night," Washington coach Bruce Boudreau said in a joking manner.

When asked about the severity of the injuries, Boudreau did not have an immediate update.

"I haven't heard, I'm afraid to go into that (trainer's) room any time," he said. "I didn't know who was on the bench once Nicky left and Fedorov left and Sloan left - and I don't know if there was anybody else."

With Saturday's trio of losses, the Capitals' injury list continues to grow.

Center Tomas Fleischmann (leg) and goaltender Jose Theodore (hip) are day-to-day, while captain Chris Clark (forearm), defensemen John Erskine (undisclosed), Jeff Schultz (finger) and Brian Pothier (concussion) and right wing Eric Fehr (shoulder) are on injured reserve.
