Bruins place LW Sturm on injured reserve

Dec 21, 2008 - 12:58 AM BOSTON (Ticker) -- Marco Sturm's return to action did not last long.

After missing 12 games already this season with concussion-like symptoms, the Boston Bruins on Saturday placed the left wing on injured reserve.

The 30-year-old left Thursday's 8-5 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first period with a left knee injury.

Sturm, who opened the scoring just 36 seconds into the contest, exited the game after he was checked into the boards with 6:23 remaining in the session.

A native of Dingolfing, Germany, Sturm has seven goals and six assists in 19 games this season.

With Sturm out for at least 30 days, Boston replaced his spot on the roster by recalling center Martin St. Pierre from Providence of the American Hockey League.

The 25-year-old St. Pierre has appeared in 21 NHL games in his career - all with the Chicago Blackhawks - and has tallied one goal and three assists. Signed as a free agent by the Blackhawks on November 12, 2005, St. Pierre was acquired by the Bruins on July 24 in exchange for center Pascal Pelletier.
