Red Wings D Lidstrom leaves game

Dec 27, 2008 - 4:06 AM NASHVILLE, Tennessee (Ticker) -- Detroit Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom left Friday's 3-2 loss against the Nashville Predators in the second period with a lower body injury.

The six-time Norris Trophy winner was on the receiving end of a shot by Nashville defenseman Shea Weber in the first period.

Detroit coach Mike Babcock said that Lidstrom was experiencing some pain and was examined at the first intermission. The X-ray was negative and Lidstrom returned to the ice for the second period.

He recorded one shift of 61 seconds in the second and did not return for the remainder of the game.

Babcock was unsure of his captain's status for Saturday night's game in Denver against the Colorado Avalanche.

Lidstrom, 38, recorded five goals and 19 assists in 34 games this season.
