Report: Maple Leafs C Stajan out up to one week

Dec 28, 2008 - 10:45 PM TORONTO (Ticker) -- Toronto Maple Leafs center Matt Stajan will be sidelined for up to a week after he hit himself in the eye with a soccer ball, according to TSN of Canada.

The 25-year-old sustained blurry vision and is expected to see a doctor on Monday.

"He's out for a while, at least a week," Toronto coach Ron Wilson told the web site. "Our doctors haven't seen him; a general ophthalmologist has seen him, not a sports-related person. They gave us a guess.

"We'll wait until we get back and see the doctors (on Monday and we'll have a better idea."

After signing a two-year contract extension in the summer, the Ontario native has nine goals and 21 assists in 34 games this season.

Taken by Toronto in the second round of the 2002 draft, Stajan has collected 65 goals and 92 assists in 348 career contests with the Maple Leafs.
