Flyers Ds Timonen, Carle eye return vs. Canucks

Dec 30, 2008 - 1:34 AM PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Philadelphia Flyers defensemen Kimmo Timonen and Matthew Carle announced on Monday that they are hopeful to play in the team's next game.

Both players are nursing ankle injuries, but eye possible a return on Tuesday when the Flyers face the Vancouver Canucks.

"It's sore, but I will probably give it a shot (Tuesday)," said Timonen, who was originally expected to be sidelined for one week. "We'll see how it feels during the morning skate, but probably."

"It's pretty sore still," Carle said. "Nothing's broken or anything, it's just a matter of getting the strength back in my foot."

The final decision on both players will ultimately fall to Philadelphia coach John Stevens.

"(Timonen) moved good and actually looked like he could play," Stevens said.

"Matt Carle, we'll have to wait and see, (but) he looked like he moved pretty good today, too. I think the morning will let us know exactly where we're at."

The team's top defenseman, Timonen has three goals and 24 points this season.

Carle has one goal and one assist in 12 contests for the Flyers this campaign.
