Report: Tanguay out six weeks with shoulder injury

Jan 1, 2009 - 10:56 PM TORONTO (Ticker) -- The red-hot Montreal Canadiens apparently will be without left wing Alex Tanguay for the foreseeable future.

Tanguay has a major shoulder injury and will be sidelined at least six weeks, according to a report posted Thursday by TSN of Canada.

The report did not disclose the exact nature of the injury, stating that Tanguay is suffering from either a separation, dislocation or strain.

Montreal's third-leading scorer, Tanguay suffered the injury in Tuesday's 2-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning when he was hit by Evgeni Artyukhin.

Tanguay, who is eligible for free agency next summer, has recorded 10 goals and 16 assists this season, his first with the Canadiens.

Montreal, which has won five of its last six games to climb into second place in the Northeast Division, already is without injured forwards Saku Koivu (foot), Chris Higgins (shoulder) and Georges Laraque (groin) and defenseman Mathieu Dandenault (forearm).
