Ducks D Huskins out 2-3 weeks

Jan 2, 2009 - 12:02 AM ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- The Anaheim Ducks will be without defenseman Kent Huskins for the next few weeks.

The Ducks on Thursday announced Huskins will be sidelined two to three weeks with a broken bone in his right foot.

The 29-year-old blue-liner suffered the injury in Wednesday's 2-0 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. After posting a minus-1 rating in just under 18 minutes of action, Huskins underwent an MRI after the game that revealed the break.

In 33 games this season, Huskins has recorded two goals, four assists and 27 penalty minutes.

To fill the void on the blue line, Anaheim recalled defenseman Brendan Mikkelson from Iowa of the American Hockey League.

A second-round pick in 2005, the 21-year-old Mikkelson has yet to make his NHL debut. The 6-3, 210-pound native of Regina, Saskatchewan has registered one goal, five assists and 10 penalty minutes in 21 games with Iowa this season.
