Bruins D Ward injured

Jan 4, 2009 - 12:04 AM BOSTON (Ticker) -- In addition to their setback to the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday, the Boston Bruins lost the services of defenseman Aaron Ward, who left the 4-2 defeat early in the second period with a leg injury.

Ward played 5 minutes, 52 seconds and posted a minus-1 rating before leaving with what coach Claude Julien described as a charley horse.

The 35-year-old Ward has been limited to 29 games this season due to injuries, recording three assists and 20 penalty minutes.

Drafted fifth overall by the Winnipeg Jets in 1991, the 6-2, 209-pound native of Windsor, Ontario has collected 40 goals, 131 points and 650 penalty minutes in 726 career contests with the Detroit Red Wings, Carolina Hurricanes, New York Rangers and Bruins.

Ward is a three-time Stanley Cup champion, winning titles with Detroit in 1997 and 1998 and Carolina in 2006.
