Blues recall, assign D Wagner

Jan 4, 2009 - 1:48 AM ST. LOUIS (Ticker) -- The St. Louis Blues on Saturday recalled defenseman Steve Wagner from Peoria of the American Hockey League before assigning him back to the Rivermen later in the day.

Wagner was brought up as insurance for fellow blue-liner Carlo Colaiacovo, who suffered an apparent minor concussion in Friday's 2-1 loss at Carolina but was able to play in Saturday's game against Columbus.

The 24-year-old Wagner appeared in 16 games with the Blues earlier this season, recording one goal, one assist and 18 penalty minutes. The 6-2, 200-pound native of Grand Rapids, Minnesota also has notched three tallies, nine points and 15 penalty minutes in 18 contests with Peoria.

Signed out of Minnesota State-Mankato as an undrafted free agent March 2007, Wagner made his NHL debut with St. Louis in 2007-08, when he collected two goals, six assists and eight penalty minutes in 24 games.
