Senators D Volchenkov out vs. Devils
Jan 4, 2009 - 11:19 PM NEWARK, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Ottawa Senators defenseman Anton Volchenkov will not play in Sunday's game against the New Jersey Devils after suffering an apparent shoulder injury the previous night."It's the same part of his body but it's not the same (injury)," Senators coach Craig Hartsburg said on Sunday. "It's a freak thing. That's one thing about Volchy, he doesn't avoid contact and he doesn't avoid playing the game hard. There's a chance, even when he's healthy, that Volchy is going to come out of a game with a bump or a bruise.
"Unfortunately for us, he's not going to play tonight."
Volchenkov suffered the injury when he was checked into the boards behind his own net by Nik Antropov with 12 minutes remaining in the third period. He did not return.
The 26-year-old Russian had recorded two goals, one assist and 22 penalty minutes in 31 games this season.
No one has shouted yet.
