Islanders C Weight misses game vs. Oilers
Jan 6, 2009 - 6:43 AM EDMONTON, Alberta (Ticker) -- New York Islanders center Doug Weight did not play in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers after he injured his leg in the morning skate.Weight, who played nine seasons with the Oilers, received a nice ovation from the crowd at Rexall Place after the veteran notched his 1,000th career point in a 5-4 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes on Friday.
"It was beautiful," Weight said. "The people in Edmonton have been great to me. It's a great place to play hockey."
Weight recorded seven goals and 25 assists in 37 games this season.
The 37-year-old has 272 goals, 729 assists and 922 penalty minutes in 1,168 career games with the New York Rangers, Oilers, St. Louis Blues, Carolina Hurricanes, Anaheim Ducks and Islanders.
