Jackets activate D Tollefsen, put C Novotny on IR

Jan 7, 2009 - 12:39 AM DETROIT (Ticker) -- The Columbus Blue Jackets got back one player but lost another Tuesday, when they activated defenseman Ole-Kristian Tollefsen and placed center Jiri Novotny on injured reserve.

Tollefsen had been sidelined since December 17 with a knee injury. The 6-2, 211-pound native of Oslo, Norway recorded one assist and 31 penalty minutes in 12 games prior to the ailment.

A third-round pick in 2002, the 24-year-old Tollefsen has registered four goals, six assists and 267 penalty minutes in 138 career contests.

Novotny, 25, is expected to miss at least one week with an upper body injury. The 6-3, 204-pound Czech has notched one goal and three assists in 26 games this campaign.

Drafted 22nd overall by Buffalo in 2001, Novotny has collected 17 goals and 31 assists in 173 career games with the Sabres, Washington Capitals and Blue Jackets.

Columbus on Tuesday also assigned left wing Nikita Filatov and right wing Stefan Legein to Syracuse of the American Hockey League.

The sixth overall selection in last June's draft, the 6-foot, 172-pound Filatov scored one goal in four games with the Blue Jackets this season before joining Russia for the recently completed World Junior Championship. The 18-year-old native of Moscow recorded eight goals and three assists while serving as captain as Russia captured the bronze medal in the tournament.

Legein registered 24 goals and 13 assists in 30 games with Niagara of the Ontario Hockey League last season but missed 22 contests with a shoulder injury suffered in the 2008 World Junior Championship. Prior to getting hurt, the 5-9, 170-pound native of Oakville, Ontario notched a tally and an assist in seven games for Team Canada, which went on to win the gold medal.

The 20-year-old Legein was a second-round pick in the 2007 draft.
