Leafs acquire LW May from Ducks
Jan 7, 2009 - 5:55 PM TORONTO (Ticker) -- Toronto native Brad May is coming home.The Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday acquired May from the Anaheim Ducks for a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2010 draft.
Selected 14th overall by Buffalo in 1990, the 37-year-old May appeared in 20 games with Anaheim this season, recording five assists and 28 penalty minutes. The veteran left wing also posted a plus-5 rating.
"Brad will provide character, toughness, and he is a proven winner," Maple Leafs general manager Brian Burke said. "We look forward to the veteran leadership that he will give our team."
A member of Anaheim's Stanley Cup championship team in 2007 that was constructed by Burke, the 6-1, 213-pound May has registered 126 goals, 159 assists and 2,121 penalty minutes in 963 career games with the Sabres, Vancouver Canucks, Phoenix Coyotes, Colorado Avalanche and Ducks.
