Avalanche LW Wolski earns 'First Star' award

Jan 12, 2009 - 5:30 PM NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Colorado Avalanche left wing Wojtek Wolski was named the NHL's "First Star" of the week Monday after recording six points in three games.

Wolski recorded two goals and four assists, helping the Avalanche to a 3-0-0 week. In his third season, the native of Poland is Colorado's fourth-leading scorer with 25 points.

The league also honored Anaheim Ducks rookie right wing Bobby Ryan and Florida Panthers center Gregory Campbell.

Ryan paced all players in goals with five to earn the "Second Star" award, including his first career hat trick in a 4-3 loss at Los Angeles on Tuesday.

Since his season debut on November 16, the New Jersey native tops all first-year players in scoring 26 points in 26 games.

Campbell was named the week's "Third Star," also registering two goals and four assists in a 3-0-0 week for the Panthers. The Ontario native already has posted career highs in goals (eight) and points (20).
