Red Wings C Datsyuk injured in loss

Jan 21, 2009 - 6:57 AM GLENDALE, Arizona (Ticker) -- Pavel Datsyuk's status for the All-Star Game on Sunday now is in question.

One of the Detroit Red Wings' two representatives for the NHL's midseason gala, Datsyuk suffered a hip injury in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes and may be forced to skip All-Star Weekend at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

After recording two assists earlier in the contest, Datsyuk took just three shifts in the third period before deciding he was unable to continue.

"Datsyuk has a hip pointer," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "He tried to go back out in the third, but it was too tender the first time out. He couldn't go anymore. I don't know about the All-Star Game. It might be a couple of days and he will be fine."

The 30-year-old Datsyuk leads the Red Wings with 37 assists and 56 points in 46 games this season.

A sixth-round pick in 1998, the 5-11, 194-pound Russian has registered 158 goals and 323 assists in 491 career contests. Last season, Datsyuk won the first Selke Trophy of his career and also captured his third straight Lady Byng Trophy.
