Red Wings C Datsyuk, D Lidstrom serve one-game suspension
Jan 28, 2009 - 12:17 AM COLUMBUS, Ohio (Ticker) -- The Detroit Red Wings look to snap a modest two-game losing streak without a pair of All-Stars.Center Pavel Datsyuk and captain Nicklas Lidstrom served their one-game suspensions from the league on Tuesday against the Columbus Blue Jackets for failing to attend the All-Star festivities this past weekend.
The NHL issued a rule last season that All-Stars who are injured must have missed at least their teams' last game before the break in order to be excused. Otherwise, they must miss the first regular-season contest after the break.
Datsyuk skipped the midseason gala with a hip injury suffered during a 6-3 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes on January 20. For his part, Lidstrom has been dealing with tendinitis in his right elbow.
The 30-year-old Datsyuk has recorded 19 goals and 37 assists in 46 games this season. A native of Sverdolvsk, Russia, the 1998 sixth-round pick has collected 158 tallies and 481 points in 491 contests over his seven-year career with the Red Wings.
Lidstrom, 38, has notched seven goals and 25 assists in 44 games this campaign. The 10-time All-Star and six-time Norris Trophy winner has amassed 219 tallies and 970 points in 1,296 contests over his 17-year career with Detroit, which selected the Swede in the third round of the 1989 draft.
