Ovechkin returns to game
Jan 28, 2009 - 1:52 AM BOSTON (Ticker) -- Washington Capitals All-Star Alex Ovechkin left Tuesday's game against the Boston Bruins late in the second period with an apparent upper body injury but returned at the start of the third. While skating down the right wing against Bruins All-Star defenseman Zdeno Chara with 5:25 remaining in the second, Ovechkin was hooked before losing his footing and crashing into the boards in the corner. The Russian stayed down on the ice for a few minutes before walking to the locker room under his own power, visibly upset while stretching his right arm.
Prior to leaving, Ovechkin recorded an assist on defenseman Mike Green's goal early in the first period. In 47 games this season, the reigning Hart Trophy winner has registered 31 goals and 29 assists.
